"12" is back again. This time he has brought his computer into the store. At this point I happily hand this off to one of my co-workers. But turns out "12" is requesting data recovery. Unfortunately I am the only employee who was capable of doing recoveries.
"12" Explains to me how he was cleaning a virus off his computer and after rebooting all his "data" was missing. I checked the computer in and did a test. I found that both fat tables where trashed, but the data structures where still there. Basically in a nut shell this means, the data IS recoverable, but is a very time consuming and long/expensive process. I contact the customer and explain this to him. "12" doesn't care how much, he wants it back.
I've delt with many companies and clients that are willing to pay large sums to get back lost data. Mainly because recovery is a fraction of the cost and time to re-enter the data. I start to do the recovery and find 180gb of "Data".
By "Data" I mean, a meticulously sorted and cataloged collection of porn. After realizing what I was recovering I contact "12" again, and explain to him he was looking at close to $2,000 in labor, and he would be responsible for the cost. He still wanted me to do it.
Many hours later I had recovered 99% of his collection. He did in fact pay his bill. Very expensive porn recovery.
